While horror fans eagerly await the arrival of Terrifier 4 —which creator Damien Leone has promised will finally give us Art the Clown’s origin story —the writer-director already has his next project in the works. Though we don’t have any plot details yet, we know it’ll be an original story separate from the Terrifier franchise. However, it may not be too far afield from what Leone knows and does best: the movie’s title, Tortures of the Damned , certainly suggests as much. According to a press release, Lionsgate will distribute Tortures of the Damned , which Leone will “write, direct, and produce” after he finishes Terrifier 4 , “which is currently in pre-production.” A Hollywood Reporter article about the project notes “sources say it is different in tone from Terrifier and will sport a heftier budget than the low-budget Terrifier franchise.” The Lionsgate press release notes that Leone’s co-producers include Ghost House Pictures’ Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert, adding some Evil Dead energy to the proceedings. The president of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, Erin Westerman, sounded very jazzed about the news. “We’re incredibly proud and excited to be partnering with Damien Leone on his first original film after the beloved Terrifier series. I join the huge contingency of horror fans—and Damien fans—inside Lionsgate who have been following his work and cheering him on. Damien is a true genre auteur with a singular vision, and we’re thrilled to help bring this bold new project to the screen while continuing to build on the incredible connection he has with fans around the world.” Want more io9 news?
