I treated myself to a scratch and dent used Kindle Paperwhite from Woot last spring, and I was shocked at what showed up. I expected plenty of damage, but instead, I got a Kindle with one minor scratch on the back. Otherwise, it's in perfect shape.Of course, buying a scratch and dent Kindle is playing Roulette. Some might have significant wear and tear, but they're all certified by Amazon to be in full working condition, but perhaps with some blemishes.
